Anthropic has rolled out bank account access for Claude, introducing a beta feature called Personal Finance for Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers in the United States. According to the company, the integration is designed to let users track their spending by reviewing categorised expenses, upcoming payments, or budget balances directly inside the model's interface.

The feature operates strictly in read-only mode, meaning Claude cannot move, manage, or invest customer funds. The infrastructure connection runs through Plaid, which prevents Claude from seeing a user's bank password, and subscribers can disconnect their financial accounts at any point. As Anthropic stated, discussions within the Personal Finance section will not be used for model training, and the company confirmed it will not display advertisements or sponsored product recommendations.

Anthropic's move mirrors a competitive feature already offered by OpenAI in the United States under the name Finances. Looking ahead, Anthropic plans to link Claude with licensed financial advisors and regulated firms, positioning its assistant alongside institutional market intermediaries while leaving security-conscious enterprises to evaluate whether external aggregators introduce new operational exposures into enterprise AI deployments.

What’s behind it

Why would large language model developers turn an AI interface into a personal transaction dashboard? Anthropic is trying to anchor subscribers to its platform through daily spending routines, balancing convenient oversight against the security friction of piping bank feeds into an external engine. The emerging financial agent is trusted to inspect private balances, but remains barred from moving a single cent.
