Artificial intelligence now accounts for 52% of SpaceX's company income, according to a financial filing from last month. Yet serving Grok Bot has created financial strain. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk confirmed in an X post on Sunday that users suddenly hitting their weekly usage limits over Halloween weekend was intentional rather than a glitch.

As Musk explained, the cost of serving Grok Bot became unsustainably high relative to revenue. The restriction occurred despite rapid adoption, with Musk recently referring to Grok Bot as having the fastest growth of any product that he has ever seen in his life.

Financial filings show that its renamed Super Intelligence division turned a profit of $431 million, even after absorbing $1.2 billion of one-time costs related to its acquisition. Musk has not yet shared how subscribers' usage limits will be impacted moving forward.
