Google has officially launched its native Gemini application for macOS, marking a significant step in the company's AI expansion. According to the official announcement, the application requires macOS 15 or higher and can be instantly summoned via the Option + Space keyboard shortcut. This release represents Google’s first full-fledged desktop AI assistant, rounding out its existing ecosystem of mobile applications.
The primary advantage of the new app is its ability to integrate AI seamlessly into professional workflows without the need to switch between browser tabs. Gemini features deep integration with local files, Google Drive documents, Google Photos, and the NotebookLM service. Its functional suite also includes image, video, and music generation, as well as specialized tools like Canvas and Deep Research. Of particular interest to business users is the screen analysis feature: for instance, Gemini can analyze complex charts or data currently displayed on the screen to provide instant summaries or insights.
The application is available for free globally and can be downloaded at gemini.google/mac. Google has emphasized that the tool's capabilities will continue to expand with new features expected in the coming months.
