OpenAI is absorbing the TBPN (The Big Post Network) media network, officially moving beyond its image as a modest research lab. The deal, closed on April 2, 2026, brings entrepreneur Jordy Hays’ daily tech show and his entire team under OpenAI’s direct strategy department. As Fiji Simo explained, the move aims to leverage TBPN’s "strong editorial instincts" to consolidate influential voices across the tech and business sectors. In effect, Sam Altman is building a proprietary communication infrastructure to broadcast directly to the public, bypassing the filters of independent media.

Simo’s logic is straightforward: standard PR tools are no longer sufficient when navigating the transition to AGI. TBPN will now report to Chris Lehane within the strategy department. While OpenAI has issued the customary promises to maintain the project’s "editorial independence," the reality is that the Hays team’s marketing prowess will be harnessed to advance the company's global interests.

The deal allows the TBPN team to move from outside commentary to having "real influence" over how the world perceives AI technologies, Jordy Hays emphasized.

The acquisition includes the media outlet's entire staff, including co-founder Dylan. From our perspective, this is a calculated land grab for the head of the table where AI policy and public perception are shaped. By owning the platform, OpenAI ensures its version of events—whether regarding AGI safety or the distribution of economic benefits—remains the dominant frequency for the tech elite.

The era of the neutral developer is officially over. We are entering the age of vertically integrated AI conglomerates. Companies are now creating their own narratives and controlling their distribution.

Owning proprietary content distribution channels is becoming as critical an asset for AI giants as compute power or training data.
