NVIDIA has unveiled the world's first open-source AI models for Ising-inspired optimization, designed to accelerate quantum computing. Named after the Ising mathematical model, historically used to simplify complex physical systems, these models aim to tackle two critical challenges impeding quantum computer development: processor calibration and error correction.
According to NVIDIA, the Ising Calibration model slashes quantum processor calibration times from days to mere hours. The Ising Decoding model significantly enhances error correction, operating 2.5 times faster and achieving 3 times greater accuracy compared to pyMatching, the current industry standard.
The Ising models are now available on Hugging Face, enabling developers to run them locally. They are also integrated with NVIDIA CUDA-Q and NVQLink platforms. This move paves the way for the creation of new algorithms and applications, accelerating the commercialization of quantum technologies.
