The era of browser-centric software is fading: Salesforce is pivoting toward a 'Headless 360' strategy. According to Marc Benioff, in the age of AI agents, the Application Programming Interface (API) is becoming the new user interface. The company is opening its entire platform—including Agentforce and Slack—via APIs, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and Command Line Interfaces (CLI).

The technical linchpin connecting data with IT systems is the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This open standard allows models to connect directly to external data sources. This architectural shift echoes Sam Altman’s thesis: today, every organization is an API company, whether they realize it or not. The OpenAI CEO believes the value of traditional graphical user interfaces (GUIs) is declining as agents increasingly access services autonomously, bypassing the visual shell.

Benioff promises that this approach will radically accelerate development cycles. AI agents can now manipulate data and execute tasks directly through Slack, voice commands, or other communication channels. In the modern agent-driven corporation, the conversation itself has become the primary interface.
